| April is a beautiful Sable Merle Sheltie girl. Although the standard for the Shetland Sheepdog does not list Sable Merle as a faulted color but many judges will not award points to a sable merle regardless of how nice the dog is. Because of this sad situation April will probably never finish her CH but we do hope to at least get a few points.. Because of this reason I didn't ever want to own a Sable Merle. April was Neal Simm's choice out of a litter that he and I co-bred. The two puppies that I kept for myself out of that breeding went undersize. Then when Mya was stolen Neal and Matt offered April back to me. At first I said No becuase I was so distraught over Mya but after a few months I agreed. April was probably the biggest reaon why I stayed in dogs after Mya's theft. Not only is she beautiful but she is a hoot to live with, it is hard to stay sad with such a cool dog hanging out with you. April is bold, bubbly and into everything! She has no fear of anything either! Even though there is such an ridiculous bias against sable merles April did place in sweeps over other dogs at a speciality show. Every show she has been to she has sparked comments regarding her quality and great temperament...and also many comments about what a shame it is that such a nice dog is a sable merle. Because of her great temperment April will probably become Mya's replacement as the therapy dog at the nursing home. Also watch for April in performance she is sure to have a awsome career there. And who knows maybe just maybe April will succeed in conformation too despite being painted with an un-popular brush. Thanks so much to Neal Simms and Matthew Burrell for giving me April! Sable Merle is not a faulted color nor is it a color that is linked to any health defects.
