Two of my friend's have and show Border Collies. However, I did not want a Border Collie. I did want a dog that could keep up on bike rides and catch Frisbees but I had researched breeds and thought a smooth collie would be the dog for me. Then around Halloween my friends invited me to go with them to pick out Border Collie puppies, I'd just be going along to help them NOT to get a puppy! My friend's made their choices and left me to pick out the 3rd puppy that they were purchasing. This huge, all most all black, puppy came running up to me. I picked him up and my friend's didn't say much....needless to say I came home with that puppy whom I named Black Magic. Magic is everything I wanted in a companion and more. Magic is my reason for staying physically fit....ever think of slacking off on that exercise program, your BC will not let you! He amazes everyone with his Frisbee antics too! He is so smart he can read my thoughts before I even know what my thoughts are! He takes caps off of shampoo bottles, soda straws out of drinks and never tips the shampoo bottle or the soda over. He protects the cats from wild life, picked up the parakeet when it accidently got out of its cage and brought it to me in his mouth unharmed!, loves puppies, and kids too. However, Magic lives up to his name in ways that are not so good sometimes. There is not a fence or a kennel that will hold him. He loves water even if it's below freezing or the neighbor really doesn't want a dog over rolling in the puddles when he is washing his truck! Magic also likes to chew on wood, he has already caused us to replace a door. He can get out of anything and regularly jumps our six foot privacy fence like its nothing even when we put an electric wire on top! While I love him dearly dogs like Magic are not for everyone and think twice before getting one. Because he is so smart he gets bored quickly and he is smart enough to get into trouble. However if you are an active person with the time to spend (& you don't mind a little destruction during puppy-hood!) you can't buy a better friend!
